Virtual Pop Up Books

The Eco Zoo This is a super cute, child-friendly, 3D virtual pop up book, created in Papervision a real time engine in Flash. Too bad the animation is really, really fast. I can't seem to figure out how they made things pop. This is actually what I want, but without the the fast camera that goes from the cardboard construction to the pop books. Maybe more pages even and of course in my own style

Castle Vredenburg Also made in Papervision from Flash. Thanks to my dearest, who showed (off) me his work. It's really nice, though not everything is completely textured and not really all that flat. Still very nice.

More inspirational stuff:

Images from the Hungarian animation movie "District". A lot of planes with pictures that have been sketched on and also some cell-shading.

Paper childeren, how cool. Though it has to perspectively correct.

Paper Mario is not the best example, even though it's really flat, I don't get the paper feel.

Something very cool when I googled paper. It's a USB-paper-shredder in the shape of a curling/straightening iron 8D.

Lotsa cool origami inthis link

Still itchy hands

Aaarrghhh! homework, project, WTF! #planning

I'm the worst planner ever! #fail

Title: Pop up girl

New way of design in my project. Arnaud said: it's too much of a border. It would be far more immersing if it would go outside that border. He said make tons of planes with things you want to tell to the readers/audience. I wasn't too fond of it, because I tend to put myself in borders and limit myself and think: "No way I could do that" For this project I decided to stop doing that. Then we came to a compromise. Pop up book! You know those old skool children books with illustrations that literally popped up from the pages and you could do cool stuff with it.

So my magazine turned into a pop up book about me. Woohoo! Now looking for cool stuff that has to do with paper and pop ups.

If you're wondering why chose the title: Pop up Girl. It's pun intended and word play, I love them! Well the pop up part is the fact, it's going to be like a pop up book. Also the girl part is girl is actually pin up girl. I replaced pop for pin.

Very cute Rexona commercial.

Not the best quality and definitely a terrible song, but the clip is very cool done. I really get a shoe box peep show vibe.

I had to. I love this pop up, it looks so intricate! I want (to make) it!

An embodiment of me in a pop up?

If anyone knows something about this matter, please, please tell me.

Aah yiiii! Creative juices are flowing! My hands are itching to make this!

Late Night decisicions

Ah, freshly steamed out of the shower. Listening to Lady GaGa. Chilling on my comfy couch, in my PJ's with a glass of wine for a night cap and typing away. Now if I was a real 'fashionable' blogger, this image would only be perfect with a big pizza fungi (champigon) in front of me. How NYC-ish!

To return on my last post on VR & JG. I've got a concept, not ready. But so far so good. I'm going to make a virtual magazine. E-mag if I might say it like that. For the iPhone/Pad/Touch. I got inspired after I took a quick look at the Alice Lite app (an Alice in Wonderland book with minimal text and interactive illustrations) and the Flipboard app. Also (very egoistic) the story is going to be about me... From my childhood, to puberty till me now. Actually I want readers to write the ending for me. Why? Because it's fun! Like a hello to me after going to through my story. Also the chance to re-organize some things to their own liking and comfortably read the e-mag.

Content visually: Fashion Editorial + Illustrations/sketeches I made myself. It's a style that fits me and says a lot about me. Also I like to put in 'secret corners'; my 'secret corners' would be folded corners to look at some embarrassing/funny photo's/facts. In other words, bonus material XD.

-intermezzo: is there no way to eat fruit without completely getting your hands dirty?-

Best part I'm receiving my iPhone 4 Saturday! Woohoo, so testing somethings right onto hardware will be easy-peasy! Only not, well fu- it, just going to do it!

Good for now, will upload and make some sketches next time. I promise!

what concept?

Yes, I've got no concept! I've got ideas, but no concept. My idea has shifted to something about my fear of darkness as a child and adult. Most kids were scared in the dark and so was I, I got over that a long, long time ago. Now I'm scared of the dark, because I'm a girl. Have you any idea what it feels like for a girl, alone in the dark? (Pun not intended!) Especially on nights out, going home after a party.

I still want to make a interactive self-portrait. After a talk with my group-mate Tamarah, I got back to me as a designer and person. I looked back at how I made 'Verstilling' and 'Fascinatie collage'. If I was working for an editorial, pages would look like this. Cream white backgrounds and nice pictures with very little text.

What more? So I'm going back to a more clear picture of me, how do I want to present myself to a crowd and what do I want to say? The first things that come to my mind "I LOVE FASHION!" Yes, I'd scream it from the rooftops. What more? "I want to create experiences, short and sweet to long and painful. I'm not going to leave you empty-handed'".

Going to browse the internet and search for pictures things I find more in-depth and fasionable.

First post, week 1

Woohoo, I've got blogpost. . . okay not so excited about that part and not so satisfied with the look of my blog, but I'll change it...sometime. I want to use this blog to update about the projects I'm working on.

So this is week 1 (calendar week 36) of my Automorphose project (such a better word for Ego, only not). I actually already had an idea for this project. I haven't had a title for it, I made that during first meeting. It's called "The Rainbow Valley". Why? It's about me and the chaos that is my way of thinking and doing. There is a valley and in that valley is a village. On top of the valley lives an old lady. Every day she goes down to buy groceries and has to carry them home. The player has to make sure she gets safely into the village and back home. It has to go very tiresome and frustrating, because she is old and has a lot of limitations and also the heavy yoke is a real literal weight on her shoulders. This is actually an interactive self-portrait to show inbalance, but not something that would suit this project. I had doubts and gave it a long thought and decided not to go with it.

The first sketch.

I'm actually curious and very excited to know what I'd make if I started from point 0. So let's start. Okay, first class, make 5 minute sketches of the words "mud" (drek), "seasons" (getijden) and "gap" (leemte).

Courtesy to my good friend and classmate Tamarah de Jager (thanks hun! (-;)

My sketches are none-existent to barely visible in this picture XD oh dear. They are on the left side of the pillar-ish thing poking out the wall. In anycase, I like most of them, not all. Also the assignment to make on your own/at home/school is to make a stillness out of yourself. Without thinking about it too much. So here is m stillness.

Everything in red is Dutch, but it says something about my favorite things and such.

Well don't really know what to make. In other words back at 0. Glad it's at the beginning of my process and not in the middle or end.

Till next week,

Ilse
